Motiva’s Port Arthur Refinery is one of the largest refineries in the world. The refinery plays a vital role in producing fuels, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other products, that are used by consumers throughout the world.
With the largest base oil plant in the Western Hemisphere, we produce enough base oils to change the oil in 1.3 million cars daily and are part of the Aramco base oil family.
A Rich Refining History
The refinery was originally built to process crude oil from the Spindletop discovery, which ignited an oil boom centered in nearby Beaumont, Texas. The refinery began in 1903 on just 25 acres of land and produced 850 barrels per day. Today, our Port Arthur Refinery has grown to encompass 1,400 acres and is North America's largest, with a total throughput of 720,000 barrels per day.

Our Base Oils
Second-Largest Base Oil Producer in the World
In addition, our Port Arthur Refinery is the second-largest base oil producer in the world, supplying aramcoPRIMA and aramcoULTRA base oils both domestically and to more than 15 countries. With a base oil capacity of 40,000 barrels per day, the base oils we supply are used by a wide range of customers to manufacture automotive and industrial lubricants.
