Health, Safety, and the Environment

Protecting the health and safety of our people and communities is a fundamental value

At Motiva, doing the right thing means the health and safety of our employees, contractors, and communities is at the forefront of everything we do. We strive to achieve an incident-free workplace with no harm to our people, the environment, or the communities in which we operate.

This health, safety, and environmental (HSE) excellence isn’t achievable without a purposeful focus and relentless drive for continuous improvement. At Motiva, we know that this excellence comes from every individual, every day.

HSE Policy

Our HSE Policy outlines how we operate in a safe and responsible manner, and protect the safety and health of our employees, contractors, customers, and communities. It represents our core values and is fundamental to our operations.

Employee Engagement

Educating employees and contractors is the first step in safety excellence. Everyone is trained on our safety practices. Regular safety engagements ensure team members are up to date on the latest policies and trends. Leaders are further trained in conducting positive safety interactions, as well as front-line leadership skills.

Collaboration between represented employees, management, and contractors is vital to our strong HSE culture and part of our Voluntary Protection Program certification.

Multiple groups, including employee safety ambassadors and contractor teams, raise safety awareness in the field and support dialogue between employees, contractors, and leadership.

Process Safety Collaboration

Process safety involves ensuring our facilities are operated and maintained safely to prevent leaks of hazardous materials. We are proud to be an active participant and leader in the Advancing Process Safety group. Advancing Process Safety is a collaboration between the American Petroleum Institute, the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, and member companies to enable collaboration and sharing of best practices to continuously improve process safety throughout our industry.

Our dedicated emergency response teams, including an onsite fire and rescue team and medical team, are trained to respond to incidents. We maintain close relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and regularly participate in emergency response exercises with them.

We also contribute our expertise and support to neighboring facilities and the greater community during significant emergency events as part of the Sabine-Neches Chiefs Association’s mutual aid organization.
